Arsenal and Chelsea were forced to settle for a goalless draw at the Emirates, granting Liverpool the status of leading the Premier League at Christmas.
A rather frustrating game for the neutral and Arsenal fans, but Jose Mourinho clearly set Chelsea up to take the point.
In a match that struggled to ever catch fire in a howling storm in north London, Frank Lampard crashed a volley off the bar in the first half while there was controversy at the other end as Theo Walcott tumbled in the area, but referee Mike Dean waved away claims for a penalty.
Olivier Giroud twice came close to breaking the deadlock in the closing stages, but the draw means Liverpool top the league ahead of Arsenal by virtue of goal difference – the last four teams to be first at Christmas went on to lift the Premier League title the following May.
