What is the Nigeria dream?

What is the Nigerian dream? This I have asked again and again, friends on different social networks has tried their best to give a dream as we get to realize there is no Nigeria dream.
Fighting corruption, religious crisis, improve security, provide social amenities – these are not dreams but what should be obtainable normally. Our crucifixion stems from the fact that we’ve allowed ourselves to be a part of another country’s destiny thus forgetting who we are as Nigeria. What’s the way forward? What must be done before we dream?

Let’s as a people come together, and make the government forget politics for once. We can not have a constitution which is adopted to work for a country whose problems are clearly different. Let’s reinvent our culture and morals, they should be taught in schools, every Nigerian should be able to speak fluently Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa and do away with English or relegate it to the background. Every great country speaks their own language as the National carrier, we do the same, the first few months will be hard but it will be worth it. We shall have one voice, one language – our language so the world will learn the language to communicate with us.
Every politician shall be made to follow a new rule, as a governor, your kids must school in the public school in your state, except where the school doesn’t have the course of interest of your ward, then can be allowed to a different university within the country but must be public. But if the course is not in the country, then the child can travel out, those at the federal level, their kids must also attend either state owned or federal institution but not private or religious. Their kids will attend classes like regular kids or the parents are impeached immediately. Let’s see how the schools won’t get better! Even if the kids were in a private school, once their parents contest and win, the child’s school must be changed before swearing in to office.
Ban importation of fuel, let the government provide very cheap public buses to commute people. Where the fare from Berger to Mile 2 will be N100 or less (if you stay in Lagos), Lagos to Abuja not more than N2000. These buses are owned by the government so it is possible, and a liter of fuel can go for N1000/litre (yes N1000), the rich will pay for the difference gained by the commuters. Those in public offices shall have a certain amount for gasoline which they must not exceed, the excess un-needed (pardon the grammar) convoy removed. Why fear the masses if you are doing what is right? In less than a year, the refineries will be working if not the rich who gained from fuel importation will soon be poor. The government will run cheap airlines but allow those with private jets pay for the masses.
Every politician shall tender their properties before getting into office, on leaving office; any property that can’t be explained shall belong to the government, same applies to un-tendered properties. If gotten through a miracle, we shall know too, even if their money and properties had sex with it self and multiplied, the world will see it.
Senate meetings shall not be reported instead it shall be live for all Nigerians to watch and know who is working for their good and who isn’t.
The judicial system shall be allowed to stand freely who in turn must let the law have its course. As long as Lucky Igbinedion, the Iboris and Obasanjos are free citizens, the jail houses shall be empty of thieves because no one man shall be judged differently for similar crimes for the law respects no one.
The mosques, churches and all religious bodies shall pay tax to the government for everything they own. Even the offering shall be taxed….the donations, the collections and pledges + fund raisers all taxed. We shall have people who are accountable to the government and that way they will be interested in what happens in the country and not be quick to bless whomever it is that sits on the throne.
Police force shall be decentralized so that police men born and breed in a locality will work their familiar environs, that will curb crime better. The idea is not to eradicate crime as that is futile but to reduce and easily identify the source because it is a familiar terrain.
The militants, the boko harams and all sects shall be called and told what they are – cowards! Their amnesty shall no longer be financial gains but rather within the 4-walls of schools, they shall learn within a time frame and if they fail at that, they have themselves to blame.
Students shall get a re-orientation of not learn to get a good job (slave) but rather study to have knowledge and since knowledge is power….so they study to have power. The educational system shall be changed: on completion of secondary school, students shall be made to work compulsorily in a field they love, and they must be employed as a rule for companies, after working for 6 months to a year, they can apply for university education. This way they have first hand experience on the future they are choosing, and the little stipend of maybe N5000 to N10000 they earn will teach them little about money. As part of the curriculum, financial education shall be taught in schools and all lectures shall be in any of yoruba, hausa or igbo but not english. NYSC shall be done in a place relevant to the course of study, this way their is a better shot at a job, no more CRK graduates and lawyers working in the bank or everyone posted to teach (obviously majority don’t want to be teachers hence they didn’t study education). During service, the government shall provide a one-room self contain for all, and they shall have the room for 3 years, rent free so they can start off life from there.
When all has been put in place then we can start the Nigerian dream which is simple: a Nigeria where you can plan knowing you can be certain of most things because they are in place and most importantly, a Nigeria where people don’t fear their government but instead the government fear the people.
