Stephen Colbert to sign off on Dec. 18

Hopefully it be, as he touts frequently on Twitter, "Last night's show, my best yet."

Stephen Colbert's final date as the host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report will be Thursday, December 18.

While pitching his book America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't, Colbert made his big announcement. And of course, it was delivered in his signature way.

"Stephen Colbert, the guy you've seen here every night for nine years will be gone. All you'll have left of me is this book," he said.

He's taking over for David Letterman in 2015.
