With Election Day less than two weeks away, here are this week's top three political headlines.
• A new USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll showed GOP Rep. Cory Gardner with a 7% lead over incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Udall. Gardner has led in 11 of the past 12 public polls in the state, showing signs of momentum in a key race for control of the U.S. Senate.
• A new analysis from the Center for Responsive Politics concludes that nearly $4 billion will be spent on congressional campaigns this year, up from about $3.6 billion that was spent in the 2012 midterm elections. For these last days of the campaign season, parties, campaigns and outside groups are spending up to $20 million a day to sway voters.
• President Obama is not on the ballot but continues to be a drag on Democratic candidates. His job approval numbers are falling and Democratic candidates don't want to be seen with him, but he told an interviewer this week that he knows they still support him. Which may not be what they wanted to hear.
