Cosby nephew defends uncle as 'innocent'

Bill Cosby
The first comment from someone in Bill Cosby's family responding to multiple rape allegations against him is a stout, Bible-quoting defense from his nephew, Braxton Cosby.

"I believe he is innocent and unless the judicial system can prove otherwise, I stand behind him and his contributions," the younger Cosby told entrepreneur/author/motivational speakerFarrah Gray in an interview published Monday. So far, Bill Cosby has declined to comment in detail on the recent surge in allegations that he's a serial rapist dating back decades.

The major voice defending him in public is his Hollywood lawyer, Martin Singer, who's issued angry statements criticizing some of the two-dozen women accusing Cosby and denouncing the media for reporting on them.

Braxton Cosby, who runs his own company, Cosby Media Productions, is a sci-fi novelist/personal trainer/actor/entrepreneur who's moved into producing Christian-oriented entertainment projects. He's currently filming a Christian-oriented film, The Snare, starring Stephen Baldwin, according to his website.

He describes himself as "a dreamer" inspired by his uncle and "a vision of continuously evolving and maximizing the untapped potential of the human spirit." His Twitter feed (more than 65,000 followers) is filled with inspirational content.
Once you throw in the towel. the enemy has officially won. If you stay in the race, no one can stop you from overcoming and finishing.
In his interview with Gray, Braxton Cosby declined to say that his uncle is being "lynched" in the media. "In this case, my uncle and his legacy are still more alive and well than ever before. He is still performing and going about normal business despite the unjustified claims," he said.

Instead, he compared his uncle's predicament to the Bible story about Jesus defending a woman about to be stoned for adultery by suggesting that only those without sin should cast the first stone.

He suggested the "attacks" on his uncle are connected to attempts to destroy Braxton's efforts to promote "positive" entertainment.

"Now more than ever before, we need content and messaging that is positive, uplifting and inspirational," he said. "We will continue to push content that reflects the same positivity. I feel that the goal here was to destroy the attempts to instill that type of entertainment going into the next year."

Braxton Cosby, who lives in Atlanta with his wife and three children, toured with his uncle in 2012 when both were promoting new books.
