Dreher (Columbia, S.C.) wing Tevin Mack held off more than 10 minutes on making his announcement Thursday afternoon until his grandmother arrived; when she got there Mack thanked his family, coaches and teachers then darted over to a table, snagged a book bag and ran behind the stage curtain.
When he came out he was sporting a Virginia Commonwealth shirt and pledging his allegiance to the Rams.
Mack picked VCU over Connecticut, Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia.
Mack, who is ranked No. 11 among wings in the ESPN 100, is expected to sign shortly after his commitment.
