Beyoncé, Sam Smith lead album of the year - Grammys

AP BEYONCE AND JAY Z - ON THE RUN TOUR - SEATTLE A ENT CPAENT USA WA

Sam Smith isn't so lonely at the top.

The British newcomer ties with Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams as the most-nominated artists of the 2015 Grammy Awards, all earning six nods including album of the year.Announced at the tail-end of the A Very Grammy Christmas special on CBS Friday, the best album picks include Beyoncé's self-titled effort, Smith's In the Lonely Hour, Williams' G I R L, Beck's Morning Phase and Ed Sheeran's x (pronounced "multiply").
On the first Christmas edition of the annual one-hour special, pop-album nomineeAriana Grande sang her ode to Kris Kringle Santa Tell Me, donning a sparkly silver-and-white getup and flanked by dancers wrapping the coveted gold trophies.

Adam Levine's signature falsetto soared covering John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War is Over), while PharrellWilliams threw it back with a doo-wop rendition of Please Come Home For Christmas.
Levine, Williams, Tim McGraw and Mary J. Blige all took the stage for two numbers each, but what may be the most talked-about moment of the evening came courtesy of Grande, who cooed steamy ballad Best Mistake. She was joined onstage by new beau, rapper Big Sean, who chimed in with a verse before the cute, grinning pair walked off hand-in-hand.
Accompanied only by a piano, Smith closed out the night with a misty-eyed, rooftop-set performance of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas — making fans all the more excited to see what gifts he unwraps at the Grammys Feb. 8.
