Mariah Carey bombs at NYC tree lighting

Mariah Carey
Despite citywide protests happening in the wake of the grand jury decision in the Eric Garner case, thousands gathered to watch the annual tree lighting in Rockefeller Center.

And what they got was a not-so-good performance from Mariah Carey.The singer was originally going to tape her performance, TMZ reported. But she showed up more than three hours late to a Tuesday pre-taping because she was meeting with lawyers over her divorce from Nick Cannon, and NBC eventually nixed the plan, opting for her to sing live on Wednesday night. Carey tweeted an apology about that.
Last night's situation was beyond my control. I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you.
Carey kicked the event off with her holiday hit, All I Want for Christmas is You.

"To say it didn't go well would be an understatement," said The Wrap.

She wasn't hitting the notes quite right and she seemed to struggle a bit with her breathing.
Gawker called it "disappointing."
Another site called it "bad beyond belief."
Another called it a "disaster."
Twitter noticed it, of course.

@MariahCarey Hope you're okay M? I love you
What happened to ? I'm watching her on this Christmas show & she can't sing anymore! She's totally winded! That was painful!
RIP Mariah Carey's Voice.
Mariah, love you. But you're killing this song. Like literally it's dead....please stop.
Today show hosts Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Natalie Moralespresided over the show.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett crooned Winter Wonderland and Idina Menzel sang Holly Jolly Christmas. Darius Rucker, Sara Bareilles and Seth MacFarlane also performed - with much of the show being pre-taped on Tuesday, according to Billboard. Trisha Yearwood led the countdown for the annual tradition, where 45,000 LED lights glow atop an 85-foot-tall Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.
