The Ajumogobia Science Foundation Memorial Christmas Concert

It is with great pleasure that we announce the 8th Annual ASF Memorial Christmas Concert, which will hold on Friday 20th December 2013, at The Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Lagos. Two shows are scheduled for 2.00pm and 6.00pm respectively.

As you may be aware, in collaboration with the Science Teachers' Association of Nigeria ("STAN"), the children and grandchildren of the late Mr & Mrs F. I. Ajumogobia have organised a Christmas concert each year since 2006 in their memory. Mr F.I. Ajumogobia is fondly called "the father of STAN" in recognition of his role in founding this national association in 1957, and also as its inaugural president.

We are pleased to inform you that the concert series is now well installed in the Lagos Christmas calendar and we are truly gratified that it has been such a huge success over the last seven years - well tenured in sustainability both in elegance and in quality.

As in all previous years, the concert largely revolves around musical performances by members of the extended Ajumogobia family and the program reflects our parents' appreciation for a wide variety of music including instrumental, classical, choral, highlife, jazz and traditional folk music. The Steve Rhodes Orchestra and Adrenalin Band together with an 80-strong Choir, conducted by Benneth Ogbeiwi, will also be in attendance. Yinka Akinkugbe will anchor the evening.

Proceeds of the concerts go towards the attainment of the Foundation's objectives as follows:

-To award science scholarships to the best male and female students in the final JSS3 and SS3 examinations

-To establish and present prizes for excellence in science teaching
-To establish a fund aimed at supporting women in science, research and development in science, technology and the environment, and science education in general.
-To support the construction of STAN Place (national secretariat) at Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, by erecting one of its major buildings.
-To organize and host an annual ASF lecture.

Each year, proceeds from the concert series specifically fund the award of scholarships to the best male and female students in the final JSS3 and SS3 examinations as well as an award to the recipient of the Science Teacher's prize.
