President Obama spends Monday welcoming a foreign leader, hosting a gay rights event, and introducing his new secretary of veterans affairs.
In the morning, Obama and Vice President Biden meet with President Michelle Bachelet of Chile.
"The visit will highlight our close relationship with Chile and our strong partnership with the Bachelet Administration on advancing peace and global security, social inclusion, and free trade," says the White House schedule.
The discussion includes the proposed multi-national agreement known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, as well as U.S.-Chilean cooperation on the issues of energy, science, and technology, the White House said.
In the late afternoon, Obama will formally unveil former Procter & Gamble executive Bob McDonald to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, at a time when VA medical care is being heavily criticized.
If confirmed by the Senate, McDonald would replace Eric Shinseki, who resigned last month amid complaints about long wait times and poor medical care at VA hospitals.
The president and first lady Michelle Obama end the day by hosting a White House event for LGBT Pride Month.
