IS Chemical Weapons Expert Killed, Says US
A chemical weapons expert working with Islamic State (IS) in Iraq has been killed in a coalition airstrike, the US military has said.
Abu Malik was killed near Mosul during an air raid on 24 January, US Central Command announced on Friday.
Malik had worked at a chemical weapons production plant under Saddam Hussein's regime before the dictator was toppled in 2003.
He later forged an affiliation with al Qaeda in Iraq in 2005, before joining IS, according to Central Command.Malik's training "provided the terrorist group with expertise to pursue a chemical weapons capability", the military said in a statement.

Number of firearms on the rise, says Homeland Security
A record 2,212 firearms -- most of them loaded -- were discovered in travelers' carry-on bags at U.S. airports last year, according to 2014 statistics to be released Friday by the Department of Homeland Security. The total number of firearms discovered at airport security checkpoints rose 22% from 2013. Transportation Security Administration officers found an average of six firearms per day in passengers' carry-on bags or on their bodies. More than 80% of the guns were loaded.
Obama mourns passing of Saudi king
President Obama and his predecessors are sending condolences to Saudi Arabia over the death of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz.
"King Abdullah's life spanned from before the birth of modern Saudi Arabia through its emergence as a critical force within the global economy and a leader among Arab and Islamic nations," Obama said in his statement.
The White House announced that Vice President Biden will soon be leading a U.S. delegation to Saudi Arabia to pay the nation's respects.
